Features: Zhang Keshua, originally named Zhang Keshua, was born in Dalian in a high-ranking official family in 1962 and later moved with her parents to Changsha, Hunan. At the end of 1982, after persistent insistence and resistance from Zhang Keshua, her loving parents finally agreed to her request for gender transition. The following January, Zhang Keshua successfully underwent a gender transition surgery at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Beijing Medical University. In September 1984, Zhang Keshua walked down the aisle with Zhao, a man 32 years her senior. In 1987, Zhang Keshua settled in Hong Kong with her husband and took a sales job at a local insurance company. In the first half of 1990, Zhang Keshua met a man named Chen Hongli, a fellow native of Changsha, who claimed to be blackmailing her, marking the beginning of her life of extortion. To escape the extortion, in 1995, Zhang Keshua flew alone to Taiwan and wrote her autobiography A Woman's Dream that same year. Recently, Hunan Literature and Art Press officially launched Zhang Keshua's autobiography A Woman's Dream. In China, A Woman's Dream is the first long-form documentary novel on gender transition. After a long period of anticipation, it has finally been successfully published. The book reveals the mysteries of gender transition with a fresh perspective, moving prose, and meticulous descriptions. Through an in-depth analysis of the special case of "China's gender transitioner" Zhang Keshua, particularly her journey of defying her own gender, the story not only portrays the tragic tale of a dreamer's rollercoaster life but also serves as a rare and valuable sociological and psychological text. The author aims to examine society's tolerance and civility through the work, advocating for tolerance, understanding, and respect, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and earnestly calling on people to pay attention to the healthy growth of those around them, especially the younger generation.
