What are the reasons for lumps on the arms?

Patient's question:

My daughter is six years old. Yesterday, I noticed a few small red bumps on her arms and the back of her feet. Is it hand, foot, and mouth disease?

Doctor's answer:

Acne on the arm could be a manifestation of folliculitis, or it could be a sign of hidradenitis, or it might be caused by allergies leading to superficial papules or inflammatory papules, requiring differentiated treatment. If it's folliculitis, it's mostly due to blocked hair follicle openings, inflammation at the base of the hair follicles, or folliculitis caused by external friction. If it's hidradenitis, it could be due to hot seasons where sweat cannot be effectively expelled from the body, leading to sweat accumulation in the sweat gland ducts and causing inflammatory irritation, resulting in hidradenitis. It could also be caused by other inflammatory factors, including allergic factors, such as allergic dermatitis, which can also lead to this condition.
