Features: In 1997, the Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Commission and the Shanghai Graduate Education Society compiled the Graduate English Vocabulary List based on the Graduate English Teaching Syllabus, serving as an important reference for graduate English teaching and testing. This book is based on that list, supplemented with example sentences and usage explanations, and includes approximately 8,500 words. It is divided into three parts:
1. Basic Vocabulary: About 4,000 words, including all words from the College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) vocabulary list and most words from the CET-6 vocabulary list.
2. Graduate Vocabulary: About 2,000 words. These are the words that master's and doctoral students must master, as specified in the Graduate English Vocabulary List.
3. Supplementary Vocabulary: About 2,500 words. This section is designed to meet the needs of graduate students seeking further improvement and preparing for advanced English proficiency tests. The selection criteria are two: first, based on word frequency, and second, based on words frequently tested in advanced English proficiency exams. As shown above, this book is not only suitable for graduate students but also for those preparing for advanced English proficiency tests.
