Can orchitis be improved?

Patient's question:

A classmate of mine told me yesterday that he had orchitis when we were chatting. Judging from his appearance, it seemed he had some embarrassing problem, which was truly heartbreaking. Can orchitis be cured?

Doctor's answer:

Orchitis initially presents with testicular pain as the primary symptom. As the condition progresses, it may again cause scrotal redness, swelling, and heat, leading to difficulty in movement due to pain. On careful examination, the epididymis can be palpated. If the epididymis is also significantly swollen and painful, it indicates epididymo-orchitis. Transillumination tests and the presence of pain can help differentiate it from hydrocele and non-strangulated hernia. In children and adolescents who experience mumps again, it is essential to carefully check for the possibility of concurrent orchitis, as mumps-associated orchitis can affect the reproductive system, potentially leading to infertility in adulthood. Therefore, it should be given due attention.
