Is sexual dysfunction congenital?

Patient's question:

I recently got divorced, and I feel a bit overwhelmed in that aspect. My wife said I'm frigid. After a year passed, I noticed that my wife had still not gotten pregnant. I thought it might be my problem, so I went to the hospital for a thorough check-up. The doctor said I have sexual dysfunction. Is sexual dysfunction caused by congenital factors?

Doctor's answer:

The causes of sexual dysfunction can be classified as functional or organic. Functional sexual dysfunctions account for the majority, primarily disturbances in cerebral cortex function. They are usually caused by abnormal sexual habits (e.g., excessive sexual activity) and abnormal mental states (e.g., fear, tension, fatigue). Organic sexual dysfunctions are less common, often resulting from spinal cord injuries that disrupt the function of the erectile and ejaculation centers, or chronic inflammation. Male diseases can be relieved, but the treatment period is generally long, and relapse is prone after treatment. Therefore, active cooperation with the doctor's medication plan is essential during treatment.
