Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio: A Collection of Materials

Author: Zhu Yixuan (Editor)
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-11-01
Features: The materials collected in this book are divided into four parts based on their content:
(1) The Story Collection, which compiles the sources that the author may have used when writing Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. By comparing these materials with the relevant stories, we can better understand the author's creative process. However, since some of the tales in Strange Tales are based on actual events or rumors of the time and often coincide with others' records, we have also included the accounts of Pu's contemporaries and later citations for reference.
(2) The Author Section, which compiles materials related to the author's life, thoughts, and writings.
(3) The Edition Section, which compiles materials on the versions of the novel.
(4) The Criticism Section, which compiles reviews of the novel after its publication by various scholars.
(5) The Influence Section, which compiles materials on the impact of Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio on fiction and theater. The lower limit of the materials collected in this book is generally the May Fourth Movement. A few entries, due to special needs, exceed this time frame. For each piece of material, the author, volume number, and the edition used are noted (for the same book, if more than two references are made, the edition is noted only under the first reference).
