Features: Learning to draw, whether pursuing professional education or self-study, generally follows two main approaches: one is observation drawing. Due to the comprehensive facilities, standardized teaching curricula, and teacher guidance in academies, they place greater emphasis on observation drawing instruction. Starting from basic courses, students progress systematically, gradually deepening their understanding from grasping fundamental skills to mastering them. Classroom observation drawing instruction is predominantly used, but it is also essential to include copying courses during the learning process, as without basic skills, observation drawing cannot be practiced. Observation drawing fundamentally differs from photography; it is the product of objective things being observed, processed by human perception and thinking, and expressed through corresponding techniques, involving an interaction between eyes, brain, and hands. Copying, on the other hand, is the best method for learning how to represent objective things.
For self-study in drawing, without the conditions of academies to conduct observation drawing instruction, the primary means of acquiring technical skills relies heavily on extensive copying, whether learning Western or Chinese painting. Copying is the best method for learning traditional techniques and absorbing the successful experiences of predecessors. Through copying, one can more conveniently acquire methods and techniques for representing objects, avoiding unnecessary and detours, thereby achieving the goal of learning traditional techniques.
