How to distinguish between orchitis and epididymitis?

Patient's question:

I've been feeling uncomfortable for a long time. Could you please tell me how to distinguish between orchitis and epididymitis?

Doctor's answer:

Orchitis is generally caused by the direct spread of epididymitis to the testicles, brought on by bacteria. The symptoms include visibly swollen testicles on one or both sides, pain upon palpation, significant redness and swelling of the scrotal skin, and a higher temperature in the testicles. Epididymitis is often a result of untreated urinary tract infections that are subsequently infected by bacteria, allowing the bacteria to enter the epididymis through the vas deferens. The symptoms include redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the entire scrotum, sensitivity upon touch, and burning pain during urination. Orchitis can be relieved, but the treatment period is usually long, and the condition is prone to recurrence after treatment. Therefore, medication must be used symptomatically during treatment.
