Features: Since the May Fourth Movement, the trend of Chinese literature has undergone rapid changes. Vernacular narrative has replaced classical lyrical poetry, and social and cultural critique, as well as the reconstruction of spiritual life, have transitioned from spontaneous to conscious efforts, emerging as an enlightening new wave. However, the turning point of the era was abrupt and uneven. Many writers and works, though groundbreaking, were prematurely submerged in the depths of history due to the shifting social landscape. Their enlightening significance remains, awaiting rediscovery by later generations of readers, much like a series of silent bells of thought yearning to be struck once more. The bell tolls on, and the spirit of literature endures. Ye Zi, originally named Yu Zhaoming, was a modern Chinese writer. This book includes 10 short stories, 1 novella, and 8 essays by him. His short story "Harvest" depicts the tragic life and struggles of farmers, garnering attention and praise from the literary circles of the time. His other major works include the novels "Beyond the Power Grid" (also known as "Uncle Wang"), "A Night in the Mountain Village," and "The Star," as well as the essays "On the Yangtze River Steamer," "Notes on Returning Home," and "The Yueyang Tower." His works often portray the lives and struggles of farmers, with a strong rural flavor, simple language, vivid and dynamic characters, and essays that excel in realism.
