Why do I still have a hernia at 42?

Patient's question:

Feeling some discomfort in the groin area, I touched it with my hand and noticed two or three small, flat bumps in the hollow of my thigh. Thinking I might have a tumor, I quickly went for an X-ray. Later, I was told it was just a hernia, but isn't a hernia something only children get? Why would a 42-year-old woman have this condition?

Doctor's answer:

Hernia can recur in patients of any age. Hernias in children are congenital, while those in adults are acquired, especially in middle-aged women, where recurrence often indicates an inguinal hernia. You can visit the surgical outpatient clinic for diagnosis. After a thorough examination, the doctor can provide a definitive diagnosis. Since it involves the recurrence of scarred anatomical structures, the treatment must be surgical, repairing the scarred inguinal (or femoral) canal.
