Features: Since 1986, the National Judicial Examination (known as the National Lawyer Qualification Examination before 2000) has gone through 20 years. In recent years, the number of examinees has remained around 200,000 annually, remaining high, while those who pass the exam appear incredibly fortunate. In this sense, calling the Judicial Examination the "Supreme Exam" is not an exaggeration. Objectively speaking, the difficulty of the Judicial Examination has been increasing. The days when simply reviewing a few textbooks could guarantee success are gone, and even the outdated notion that the exam is just about memorizing legal provisions is gradually deviating from its development trend. To pass the Judicial Examination successfully, we must eliminate (frivolity) and (gambling mentality), moving from simply reviewing textbooks, memorizing legal provisions, and drowning in practice questions to accurately grasping the legal principles behind the provisions and comprehensively understanding legal knowledge. Textbooks are fundamental. Therefore, in the review process, we should start with textbooks rather than memorizing provisions or doing practice questions. The current National Judicial Examination Guidance Book is a revised version of the designated textbook organized and compiled by the National Judicial Examination Center of the Ministry of Justice in 2003. Its compatibility, comprehensiveness, and accuracy with the Judicial Examination syllabus are undeniable, which is also the reason why it is the preferred choice for most candidates. However, due to factors such as its length and the nature of textbooks, it is often difficult to reflect which chapters are more or less important, or which knowledge points are more likely to be tested. Therefore, supplementary materials that summarize and analyze exam-related content, along with regulations, past questions, and practice questions, can help candidates achieve optimal review results through layered reinforcement.
At the same time, legal provisions are key. To successfully overcome the Judicial Examination, it is essential to master legal provisions, especially important ones. This is also why books focused on interpreting key legal provisions became popular several years ago. However, even the most important legal provisions cannot replace textbooks. Without textbooks, memorizing legal provisions is difficult, and passing the exam is equally challenging. In fact, whether in recent years' question types or the subjects tested, simply memorizing legal provisions is no longer sufficient. A complete legal system has inherent logical requirements, reflecting the connection between systems or procedures. Focusing only on key provisions does not facilitate a holistic understanding of the original intent of legal provisions, let alone the fact that exams often involve non-key provisions. Therefore, we advocate memorizing legal provisions in conjunction with textbooks—focusing but also being comprehensive. Familiarizing oneself with and studying past exam questions is highly beneficial. Besides the fact that many questions are simple repetitions of past questions, many key points have already been tested over the past 20 years, especially in the last decade. Most current questions only change the angle of examination or combine multiple aspects. Practicing past questions helps master key points, understand question patterns, and refine problem-solving methods. Appropriate practice is also necessary. While doing practice questions takes time and effort, we cannot skip it. Interspersing practice questions during textbook review and provision memorization deepens understanding and reinforces memory. Of course, due to the time-consuming nature of practice questions and the low quality of many questions, we recommend practicing in moderation while increasing focus.
Based on these insights, to improve candidates' learning effectiveness and facilitate their review, we have planned and compiled the Companion One-Stop Guide to the National Judicial Examination Guidance Book. This series fully embodies the principle of "Textbooks as the foundation, legal provisions as the key, practice past questions extensively, and practice moderately." The order and content of all chapters in this series are designed around the National Judicial Examination Guidance Book (Revised Edition 2006), tailored as its companion guide. Organized by chapters or sections, it reasonably integrates exam analysis, legal provisions, key points, past questions, and practice questions to truly achieve the "one-stop" goal. Specific content is divided into the following sections:
[Exam Analysis] In this section, we statistically analyze the key points and scoring distribution of this chapter/section across the six exams from 1999 to 2005, providing a concise analysis of question patterns and trends to guide candidates to focus their efforts after comprehensive review.
[Legal Provision Connection] As the name suggests, this section organizes the legal provisions related to this chapter/section in order, with main provisions as the backbone, interweaving all relevant provisions and judicial interpretations required by the syllabus, forming a coherent knowledge chain.
[Key Point Explanation] This is the core section of the series. Key points are divided into two types: those that have already been tested and those that have not yet been tested but are relatively important. Through the classification and integration of all questions from 1996 to 2005, the compilers extract and summarize key points, providing detailed explanations combined with past questions from the past decade. This section is not a mere repetition of the textbook but offers practical analysis from an exam perspective, highlighting key considerations. Many key points span multiple chapters or even disciplines. Compared to currently available topic-based supplementary guides, this series covers key points in a systematic, comprehensive, and focused manner, achieving both "thorough coverage" and "targeted attack."
[Typical Tests] Based on the key point explanations, we design practice questions of similar difficulty for key points that require memorization or deeper understanding. The series is divided into six volumes: Civil Law, Criminal Law, the People's Court Procedure and Arbitration System, Criminal Procedure Law, Commercial Law·Economic Law·Administrative Law and Administrative Procedure Law, and Legal Theory·Constitution·Legal History·International Law·Judicial System and Legal Ethics.
The compilers of this series are young law Ph.D.s who have not only passed the National Judicial Examination with high scores but also engage in Judicial Examination tutoring. They possess extensive professional knowledge, tutoring experience, and exam insights. During the compilation process, we also referred to the works of scholars and peers and incorporated valuable suggestions from fellow students and examinees. We strive for perfection, candidates strive for success, and we hope this book assists candidates in achieving their goals! If candidates have any criticisms, suggestions, or questions beyond this book, please email us at sikao2000@163.com.
