Features: Only by comparing things can we see differences and lengths; only by learning from each other can we promote development and progress. Legal system construction is no exception. The development of China's legal system, including the reform and improvement of its criminal procedure law, must be grounded in China's national conditions while continuously summarizing its own experience. It should also study the situation of foreign legal system construction, learn from their experiences, and achieve the effect of "a stone from another mountain can polish jade." For this reason, the China University of Political Science and Law Criminal Law Research Center, which I chair, has continued to organize the translation and publication of criminal procedure law codes from several foreign countries based on the previous work of the Research Group on the Reform of the Criminal Procedure System. The Criminal Procedure Code of France is one of them. I believe that the translation and publication of the Criminal Procedure Code of France will be of some help to the implementation of the revised Criminal Procedure Law (adopted on March 17, 1996, by the Fourth Session of the Eighth National People's Congress) and the study of criminal procedure law.
