Patient's question:
My body is still quite good, but recently, my sex life hasn't been great. Sometimes I feel embarrassed to talk about it, mainly because of weak erections. Sex usually lasts only a few minutes before it's over. I've never gone to the hospital for treatment, but my wife told me to get checked. What can I do about weak erections?Doctor's answer:
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is primarily characterized by the inability to achieve a fully erect penis or a firm erection, making it impossible to fully perform normal sexual activity. The causes of ED can be psychological or organic. Psychological ED is usually temporary, and complete recovery is often possible after eliminating the psychological factors or undergoing treatment. Organic ED accounts for only 10% to 15% of ED patients. Its causes are complex and are typically due to certain diseases in the body, particularly disruptions in the metabolism of sexual hormones and disorders of the urinary and reproductive systems, which are more prone to cause ED.
