Roman Law Basics (Revised Third Edition)

Author: Jiang Ping
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-08-01
Features: The author has never given a positive response mainly for two reasons. In 1989, one of the authors, Professor Jiang Ping, who was then the president of the China University of Political Science and Law, signed an agreement with the Second University of Rome regarding the cooperative translation and dissemination of Roman law literature. Since then, the Chinese legal community has achieved remarkable and fruitful results in translating and publishing Roman law literature and textbooks, as well as conducting academic exchanges with the Italian legal community. To some extent, these achievements have introduced Western legal culture, particularly Roman legal culture, to China, bringing it to a climax and also promoting the advancement of Roman law studies in China to a higher stage. In this context, the authors believe that a more rigorous approach would be to first thoroughly absorb and digest the newly acquired legal literature and materials, and then refine them through a period of teaching and research, so that the revised edition of the book can to the greatest extent reflect the current level of Roman law studies in China and meet the needs of readers. Second, teaching, research, and summarization require time, and the various responsibilities and changes in job positions that the author has undertaken since the early 1990s have also made it impossible for the author to focus all their energy on revising and supplementing the book.
