Features: New standards, new theories, and new methods are the main thread we have always adhered to and integrated throughout this book. The new standard refers to the "Assessment of Disability Caused by Traffic Accidents" (GB18667—2002) of the People's Republic of China, which was implemented on December 1, 2002. Compared to the old standard (GA35—92), the new standard is more comprehensive, scientific, and perfect. It improves the original 10-level classification of disability grades and proposes a comprehensive mathematical method for multi-level disability assessment. It also introduces new concepts such as "shoulder joint complex function" and "limb function," while proposing a new theory for calculating limb functional impairment based on the corresponding "weight index" of major limb joints.
New Theories: The assessment of "movement injuries" (movementinjuries) in traffic accidents is relatively challenging. Movement injuries refer to damage caused by rapid movement of a body part relative to another part due to violence, without direct impact on a solid object. This is in contrast to "impact injuries" (impact-injuries), which refer to damage caused by direct body contact with an object. The mechanisms of injury in impact injuries are generally well-understood, whereas those in movement injuries are not, especially the "whiplash injuries" of drivers and passengers in traffic accidents, which are particularly complex. Both the mechanisms of injury and the injury mechanisms of whiplash injuries have their own specific characteristics. Therefore, we have strived to introduce the latest theories and research findings of international peers on whiplash injuries to the readers.
New Methods: In the new standard, although many new concepts and methods have been proposed, some articles remain relatively vague and general, such as the lack of specific provisions for assessing the proportion of limb functional impairment, the degree of joint functional impairment, the degree of hand functional impairment, and the degree of erectile dysfunction. As a result, the new standard still has some shortcomings in practicality and operability. In fact, these issues have long been key and challenging in the assessment of disability caused by traffic accidents. To address this, the author has drawn on clinical medical research findings while combining his own practical experience to propose specific operational methods, striving to reflect scientific rigor, standardization, practicality, and operability.
