Patient's question:
A few days ago, I went to a colleague's house for a visit. Their child is now 5 months old and is incredibly cute and lovable. However, a few days ago, they mentioned that the child has just been diagnosed with a hernia. I'd like to understand what causes pediatric hernias?Doctor's answer:
Children suffering from chronic cough, constipation, and prolonged intense crying can lead to abnormally elevated intra-abdominal pressure, pushing organs into the inguinal canal, resulting in hernia. The weakness of the inguinal muscles and fascia, along with insufficient barrier strength, makes it easy for abdominal organs to enter the canal, causing sudden hernia. Hernia cannot heal on its own. Surgery is the only treatment method. Because the greatest danger of hernia is incarceration, and the consequences of incarceration are even more severe, hernia patients should be treated as soon as possible. Infants should undergo hernia surgery around six months of age.
