Professor Liu Ding made pioneering contributions to the teaching and research of international economic law in China. To meet the needs of teaching and research on international economic law in Chinese universities and colleges, a group of middle-aged and young teachers and researchers who have long been engaged in teaching and research on international economic law, primarily from the International Law Teaching and Research Office of Renmin University of China, collectively compiled this textbook. The book systematically discusses various major legal issues involved in international economic and trade transactions, including international trade, international investment, international finance, international taxation, and dispute resolution in international economic and trade transactions. Since its publication in 2000, the book has received praise from many sister institutions across the country, been reprinted multiple times, and won the First Prize of the 2002 National Outstanding Textbook for Higher Education in China awarded by the Ministry of Education. To adapt to the development and changes in international economic relations, while maintaining the original structure of the textbook, we revised the existing material by incorporating newly formulated domestic laws and international conventions adopted by China, particularly the relevant rules of the World Trade Organization and related international trade practices, to keep pace with the times and ensure the textbook reflects the new developments in international economic legislation and judicial practice. International economic law is a relatively new emerging legal discipline that regulates international economic relations. In China, it has developed alongside the country's policies of revitalizing the economy domestically and implementing an open-door policy externally. This is the first publicly published and distributed monograph on international economic law in China, written by the late Professor Liu Ding of our institution and published by Renmin University of China Press in 1984. Professor Liu Ding made pioneering contributions to the teaching and research of international economic law in China. Over the past decade or so, significant changes in international and domestic economic relations and related legislation have greatly enriched the content of international economic law. As a result, numerous works on international economic law have emerged like mushrooms after rain, and research in this field has continuously deepened. This textbook strives to elucidate the fundamental theories of international economic law while closely linking them to China's practices in foreign trade and international economic and technological cooperation, reflecting the new developments in China's foreign economic legislation and practice as well as international legislation and practice. The book systematically discusses various major legal issues involved in international economic and trade transactions, including international trade, international investment, international finance, international taxation, and dispute resolution in international economic and trade transactions. The references cited in the book generally cover material up to June 1999.
