Wang Shuo Collection Never Treat Me as a Human

Features: Wang Shuo is lonely in our time, as he has persistently upheld the tradition of realism in Chinese literature and the spirit of facing life. Most people are deceived by the superficial playfulness and rebellious tone of his work, failing to see that he is, at his core, a true enlightenment thinker. They overlook the profound humanistic spirit that permeates his novels, his compassion for the underdogs, his longing for love, and his pursuit of the value of individual existence. These books were written ten years ago or earlier, when I was very self-assured, believing in many things and disbelieving in many others. I had strong desires and thought that what I knew was everything. The people, scenes, and conversations in these books are from my experiences at that time, and they were not particularly extraordinary in life. I only found them interesting because I didn’t know more, and I wrote them down with a sense of pretentiousness. These scenes are gone, the people have scattered, the living have aged prematurely, and I no longer speak or view myself in the same way. Sometimes, I feel that I have lost the ability to continue writing.
