Can a 1.5-year-old child with a hernia still be treated?

Patient's question:

Patient Age: One and a half years old with a lump on the right side, sometimes it goes up, sometimes it comes down. The doctor said it's an inguinal hernia. Previous treatment history and effectiveness: The doctor said the child was too young and that surgery was not possible. Instead, two hernia belts were purchased, but they didn't seem to be effective. What kind of help is desired: 1. If surgery is not performed, is there no other solution?

Doctor's answer:

Generally, treatment is not recommended before the age of 2. If the condition does not improve on its own after the age of 2, surgical treatment may be necessary. Before the age of 2, it is possible for the condition to resolve on its own. However, if it reoccurs, emergency surgery is required at any time. In normal cases, simply avoiding factors that increase abdominal pressure, such as constipation, indigestion, and crying, may allow the condition to resolve on its own. If a hernia bag can be purchased to cover the weak area of the hernia, it may further slow the process of spontaneous fibrosis.
