Features: This book collects over 40 types of the most widely used and practical buck-type DC/DC converter integrated circuits in actual applications, with a focus on Maxim's chips. In addition to introducing their electrical performance parameters, pin connections, package types, internal block diagrams, and typical application circuits, the book also provides various application circuits and extended application circuits. During the general introduction to these buck-type DC/DC converter integrated circuits, to purify the environment, clean the power grid, save energy, and meet government requirements for electromagnetic compatibility and other aspects, we have highlighted the introduction of low-voltage, high-current DC/DC converter integrated circuits. This book is suitable for reference by electronic engineering technicians, power technology research and application technicians, instrument and meter technicians, computer measurement and control technicians, faculty and students of colleges and universities, and amateur enthusiasts in electronic technology. It can also serve as a reference for technical development and maintenance personnel in power product manufacturing companies.
Preface The DC/DC converter technology is an important branch of switch-mode power supply. This book is written by the author based on extensive research of papers, materials, and books on DC/DC converters, as well as years of experience in teaching, research, design, and development of DC/DC converters. The entire book avoids the introduction, analysis, and derivation of internal principle circuits of DC/DC converters, focusing instead on the practical and concise requirements of circuit design, development, and implementation. The book not only introduces the key performance, technical parameters, pin connection functions, package types, and internal block diagrams that designers and developers need to understand when applying these switch-mode integrated regulators in practical applications but also provides their typical application circuits and extended application circuits.
With the continuous improvement and rapid development of microelectronics technology, CMOS, BМОS, DMOS processes, and other edge technologies, the demand for low-power, energy-saving, and intelligent products has been growing. Governments have been issuing increasingly strict, comprehensive, and refined regulations and laws regarding environmental purification, power grid cleaning, energy conservation, and electromagnetic compatibility. At the same time, the need for low-voltage, high-current power supply for CPUs, PCMCIA, DSP, ASIC, FPGA, and other devices has been increasing, leading to breakthroughs in DC/DC converter technology and the emergence of many new products that improve people's lives and working conditions, such as mobile phones, laptops, and in-vehicle CD/TVs.
DC/DC converters, with their unique advantages of small size, light weight, high efficiency, diverse output forms (primarily in terms of number of channels and polarity), and wide voltage regulation range, have been integrated into all fields related to electricity. In these fields, linear step-down transformers, which were previously used for linear power supplies, have been replaced by DC/DC converters due to limitations such as large size, heavy weight, low efficiency, and low power factor, or due to their sensitivity to grid frequency and voltage fluctuations. Additionally, the emergence of DC/DC converters and practical products has made it possible for many electronic devices to operate on battery power and for many electronic products to become portable after being miniaturized and micro-sized. Therefore, DC/DC converters have not only become the heart of various electronic devices but also the key to ensuring high-efficiency, low-power, and reliable operation of electronic devices and systems.
DC/DC converters have now become an extremely popular discipline. A global movement to purify the environment, clean the power grid, save energy, and ensure electromagnetic compatibility has been sweeping across countries. In our country, this movement, advocated by the government, is permeating all fields related to electricity. Regulations and laws regarding environmental purification, power grid cleaning, energy conservation, and electromagnetic compatibility have been issued. To actively participate in this movement, meet and implement government regulations, and promote our country to catch up with world advanced levels, technical personnel in the power industry should take the lead in actively promoting, implementing, and enforcing government regulations and laws, leveraging their expertise in power technology to design and develop more AC power supply systems and DC power supply products with environmental purification, power grid cleaning, energy-saving, and electromagnetic compatibility functions. The application circuits of DC/DC converter integrated circuits compiled in this book will play an invaluable role in this movement, providing practical references for power industry technicians and contributing to the development of power technology in our country.
DC/DC converters are the core and key technology of low-voltage, high-current power supplies. To enable technical personnel involved in the design, development, and production of DC/DC converter products to use DC/DC converter integrated circuits more directly, clearly, efficiently, and cost-effectively to design, develop, and produce more reliable and lower-cost low-voltage, high-current power supply products, we have classified DC/DC converter integrated circuits into four major categories—buck, boost, polarity inversion, and hybrid—based on their input and output methods. This book focuses on compiling over 40 of the most commonly used and widely applied buck-type DC/DC converter integrated circuits, attempting to describe and introduce various performance, technical parameters, internal block diagrams, pin functions, and package types for users. Finally, it provides a variety of application circuits and extended application circuits for these over 40 buck-type DC/DC converter integrated circuits. We will also publish books on boost, polarity inversion, and hybrid DC/DC converter integrated circuits and their applications in the future.
Finally, it should be noted that from a practical perspective, the various package types provided in this book for the over 40 buck-type DC/DC converter integrated circuits and their applications are based on direct calls to standard package forms in PCB device libraries. For devices not included in the library, the author has specially created illustrative and edited package designs without adhering to the original device's actual size, pin length, and width in a 1:1 ratio. Readers are requested to pay close attention. The application circuits and extended application circuits introduced in this book were primarily written by Wang Shuiheng and Yu Jianguo. Before these application circuits were publicly published and compiled, Xuan Zongqiang and Shi Junjie conducted extensive experimental verification work, which ultimately led to the final version. First and foremost, we would like to thank Professor Liu Changsheng and other teachers and experts who reviewed the manuscript of this book and provided valuable suggestions. Secondly, we would like to thank Yun Lishi and other staff members of the Xidian University Press. Finally, we would like to thank the authors of the references listed in this book.
Due to the limited writing and technical expertise of the author, there are inevitable shortcomings in this book. We sincerely welcome readers to provide valuable criticisms and constructive suggestions for improvement.
