Is hospitalization for neonatal pneumonia necessarily isolation treatment?

Patient's question:

My child has only been born a few days. Yesterday, I noticed occasional groaning sounds. Each time they feed, they breathe heavily. They often hiccup. The doctor checked and found it to be neonatal pneumonia. Must newborns with pneumonia be isolated for treatment?

Doctor's answer:

Hello! There are many types of neonatal pneumonia. It is related to the type of infection. Viral infection and bacterial infection are the most common. Foreign body aspiration in newborns is also a common cause. Based on the current symptoms, it may be related to infectious pneumonia. The duration of recovery depends on the severity of the condition and factors such as the child's immunity. Generally, bacterial infections recover in about 1-2 weeks. Neonatal pneumonia is not a contagious disease, so isolation treatment is not necessary.
