Prostate enlargement, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is a common condition that significantly affects the health of elderly men due to the of the prostate.
Estrogen therapy: Take ethinyl estradiol orally at a dose of 1 to 3 milligrams once a day, three times a day, for 1 to 3 weeks. For those with more severe acute urinary retention or difficulty urinating, a slightly higher initial dose may be used, or estradiol valerate 10 milligrams can be administered intramuscularly every 5 to 7 days.
Surgical treatment: If the prostate enlargement is severe, there have been multiple episodes of acute urinary retention, a large amount of residual urine (60 to 100 milliliters or more), urinary tract infections, impaired renal function, and the condition does not improve with the above treatments, prostatectomy is recommended.
