Can mothers with newborn jaundice eat oranges?

Patient's question:

Just gave birth a few days ago. The child gradually developed jaundice. And I usually like to eat oranges. So when the child has jaundice, can the mother still eat oranges?

Doctor's answer:

Neonatal jaundice refers to the condition during the neonatal period where abnormal bilirubin metabolism leads to elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood. The occurrence of jaundice in the skin, mucous membranes, and sclera is the most common clinical issue in newborns. This condition can be categorized into two major types: physiological and pathological. Physiological jaundice generally does not require special treatment. Pathological jaundice, however, may require blue light therapy to alleviate the jaundice. There are no specific dietary requirements for the mother. She can follow a light diet or consume oranges.
