Patient's question:
Hello, I have pain in my testicles and a feeling of heaviness. The doctor said I have epididymitis. What is epididymitis?Doctor's answer:
Epididymitis is a common inflammation of the male reproductive system, usually caused by Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus. It is divided into acute and chronic types.Acute epididymitis has very obvious clinical symptoms: sudden swelling and pain in the epididymis, sometimes accompanied by fever and chills. Palpation reveals swelling or a lump in the epididymis, with significant tenderness. It is often accompanied by prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis. Laboratory tests: elevated white blood cells, and sometimes urine culture shows pathogenic bacteria.
Chronic epididymitis: Most patients have a history of acute testicular and epididymitis. There is pain in the scrotum, a sensation of heaviness, or a feeling of fullness. Palpation shows a reduced and hardened epididymis with mild tenderness. The vas deferens on the affected side is thicker and harder. Laboratory tests show normal prostatic fluid with an increased number of white blood cells.
