What tests are needed for a confirmed diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia?

Patient's question:

Going to the hospital for benign prostatic hyperplasia, do I need to have a thorough examination? What should be checked, I want to be mentally prepared. I feel a bit embarrassed.

Doctor's answer:

Prostate enlargement requires the following careful examinations:
1. Physical examination: Check how dull the patient's symptoms are, whether there is anemia or edema. Hypertension (a clue for or excluding early uremia); whether there is a mass in the abdomen and its location (compensatory or decompensatory phase of urinary tract obstruction); whether there is urethral discharge, and how swollen the epididymis is (speculating whether there is a split infection).
2. Digital rectal examination: Check the tone of the anal sphincter (to differentiate neurogenic bladder) and the condition of the prostate, noting its size, how the central sulcus disappears, whether there are nodules, the hardness of the prostate, and whether there is tenderness, etc.
3. Laboratory tests: Urinalysis to detect whether there is a split urinary tract infection; blood tests and ultrasound: Low hemoglobin and elevated urea nitrogen suggest uremia.
