Patient's question:
My baby has been out of the hospital for 15 days, and it has been a week since discharge. When discharged, the doctor said there was jaundice, and now there is still a slight yellowish hue on the face. Is there a problem? What should I do? Patient age: InfantDoctor's answer:
Characteristics of physiological jaundice:(1) It appears and gradually deepens from 2 to 3 days after birth, reaching its peak between the 4th and 6th day. Starting from the second week, the jaundice gradually subsides.
(2) The jaundice has a certain limit and does not turn golden yellow. It primarily affects the face and torso, while the calves, forearms, hands, and soles of the feet usually show no significant jaundice. In full-term infants, physiological jaundice typically disappears by the end of the second week. Premature infants usually recover within the first three weeks. The child has normal body temperature, good appetite, gradual weight gain, normal stool and urine color. If everything is fine, there's no issue.
