What should be done about hydrocephalus in the posterior fossa of the fetus

Patient's question:

I had a color Doppler ultrasound at 40 weeks of pregnancy, which showed: 1.4 cm of cerebellar cistern effusion in the fetus, and all other tests were normal. I want to know if it will affect my baby's intelligence after birth, and how to treat it? I'm very worried. It has been three days since I haven't given birth yet.

Doctor's answer:

It is recommended that you undergo further examination. Because a single ultrasound cannot confirm hydrocephalus. Another ultrasound can be performed for dynamic observation. If both maternal and fetal measurements are outside the normal range, it can be determined that the fetus has hydrocephalus. Actively treat intracranial hemorrhage and meningitis in newborns to avoid hydrocephalus fluid circulation disorders and poor absorption caused by factors such as meningeal adhesion. Severe cases may require surgical shunt surgery.
