Features: This book analyzes how to use the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java 2 Enterprise Edition, J2EE) to encapsulate traditional applications to adapt them to multi-tiered Internet environments. Sun's chief architect Torbjorn Dahlen and Thorbiorn Fritzon explain how to use an integration layer to standardize the encapsulation process. Using this method, enterprises can improve program reusability, accelerate the process of projects in traditional applications, thereby maximizing the potential of COBOL/Host and Java technologies, enabling enterprises to ultimately achieve application portability with minimal development costs across different hardware and operating systems.
· Provides a feasible domain model method to achieve the of traditional applications.
· Improves system reusability and portability by applying a standardized, fine-grained domain object model.
· Analyzes how to simplify the transformation of the domain model to a working system.
· Introduces a proven, pattern-based J2EE application architecture for traditional systems.
· Presents improved object query algorithms, data filtering and merging, and manual XA support.
This book also provides detailed examples and source code, including a case study throughout the book, to demonstrate how to integrate three different traditional systems. J2EE provides an integration method that allows enterprises to encapsulate traditional software running in low-concurrency client/server environments and integrate them into high-concurrency multi-tiered Internet environments. However, how to properly encapsulate traditional systems and apply them to Internet environments has become increasingly important. This book addresses this issue and discusses methods and technologies that can make the encapsulation process more detailed and effective.
Using an integration layer allows users to focus only on the attributes and requirements of the traditional system parts while protecting the J2EE portion of the software. In most cases, the term "portability" refers to the ability of software to migrate between different hardware and operating systems. However, in this book, "portability" refers to the ability of applications developed on traditional systems to migrate to other data sources without extensive redesign and re. For both definitions of "portability," standardization is key, and standardizing the encapsulation process can make "portability" more advantageous in many aspects.
The task of encapsulating traditional systems is challenging and requires a comprehensive understanding of two domains: the object-oriented J2EE domain and the traditional system domain (e.g., COBOL/Host environments). If the encapsulation system is based on a well-defined process, encapsulation work can be performed outside of regular software development projects. If a specific software development project has no time constraints, the encapsulation process can proceed according to inherent reasonable steps, providing a solid foundation for subsequent software development projects, where project development can save significant time and investment.
This book is primarily aimed at business analysts and system analysts, architects, and designers who develop software on J2EE platforms and have a need to integrate traditional systems. Readers will gain greater benefits from this book if they have the following knowledge: object-oriented, Rational Unified Process, J2EE, host systems, and transaction processing listeners.
