How to treat enuresis now

Patient's question:

Enuresis currently causes difficulty waking up at night, and upon waking, there is confusion. It is commonly referred to as a hysterical attack. During the day, school and play are normal. It is worse in winter and lighter in summer. How should it be treated? I sincerely request guidance from all experts. Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

Enuresis refers to the involuntary urination in children aged three to four years or older without any apparent organic lesions. Therefore, spicy and irritating foods should be avoided in the diet. For children with enuresis, excessive fluid restriction during the day should be avoided. It is required that the child holds urine at least once a day until they feel mild fullness or discomfort to exercise the bladder function. Drinking less water for dinner is recommended to reduce the burden on the kidneys and decrease nighttime urination. Corn, coix seed, red bean, crucian carp, and watermelon should be avoided as they are sweet and bland, with significant diuretic effects, which can worsen enuresis. It is advised to undergo a check-up before starting treatment.
