1. Semen analysis: It is evident that the sperm count increases, sperm motility decreases, and the number of immature and acrosome-negative sperm continuously rises. If a testicular biopsy is performed, it can be observed that the germ cells are poorly developed.2. MRI examination: It can confirm the blood flow in the testes and measure the volume of the testes.
3. Varicocele venography: A catheter is inserted through the femoral vein to the internal spermatic vein, and contrast dye is infused. Careful observation is made of the extent of contrast dye reflux. When the contrast dye refluxes to a length of 5 cm in the internal spermatic vein, it is classified as mild; when it refluxes to the L1–5 level, it is moderate; and when it refluxes into the scrotum, it is severe.
For the treatment of this condition, asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic individuals can wear elastic pants or use a scrotal support band. For those with more severe symptoms and male infertility accompanied by varicocele and abnormal sperm, surgical treatment should be performed.
