For programmers dedicated to Open Source projects, Open Source is a new faith; the spiritual leaders of this movement paint a promising future for these programmers. For companies integrating Open Source software into their operations, Open Source reveals how open development can build better software and shows how businesses can leverage this free software to gain a competitive edge in the market.
For today's programmers, the following computer experts are their idols—they have developed many software products, including: the world's most popular and widely used web server software—Apache; the fastest-growing operating system outside of Redmond—Linux; the world's best text editor—Emacs; and the world's most popular scripting language—Perl.
