How should varicocele be treated?

Patient's question:

I feel very uncomfortable in my private area, and that feeling cannot be described. It affects my work and life very much, and it's very troublesome. How should varicocele be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele is more common on the left side and is related to the almost 90° angle formed by the left spermatic vein draining into the left renal vein. In most cases, it does not require treatment, but surgery is recommended in the following two situations:
1. Obvious symptoms, such as a heavy or swollen scrotum causing discomfort.
2. Infertility, especially due to varicocele-induced impaired spermatogenesis.
Although varicocele may not be the sole cause of infertility, it is at least a high-risk factor. It is recommended to start treatment with Tong Su Shu Mai Fang as early as possible, which helps to warm the body, dispel cold, regulate qi, and prevent high-altitude induced abortion.
There are several treatment methods for male reproductive diseases, but the diagnostic approach varies depending on the patient's condition. Therefore, it is essential for patients to receive a prompt diagnosis to ensure targeted treatment.
