What should I do after discharge from the hospital for newborn pneumonia?

Patient's question:

My baby is 20 days old. I took her to the hospital for a check-up and she was diagnosed with neonatal pneumonia. After being treated in the hospital for six days, she was discharged. Since discharge, she still has a stuffy nose, sneezes, and has difficulty sleeping, often waking up easily. What should I do after being discharged from the hospital with neonatal pneumonia?

Doctor's answer:

After newborn pneumonia discharge, pay special attention to the following points:
1. Parents should give medication to their children under the guidance of a doctor. Do not take medication arbitrarily.
2. If your child has a cold or cough and exhibits one or more of the following symptoms, seek medical attention promptly:
- Breathing faster than usual, exceeding 60 times per minute (for infants under 2 months old) or 50 times per minute (for children aged 2–12 months) or 40 times per minute (for children aged 1–4 years);
- Loud breathing sounds;
- Intermittent breathing;
- Chest sinking during inhalation;
- Flaring nostrils;
- Gurgling sounds;
- Inability to drink any liquids, or choking when trying to drink;
- Skin turning bluish or purplish.
3. Early spring is the flu season. Try to minimize taking children to public places.
