How many months can a baby sit up?

Patient's question:

Seven-month-old baby, this morning I put her on the floor to sit, she sat for a while and then leaned back and fell to the ground. Will it affect the baby's brain development? Will she get a concussion? (Tile floor) How many months can the baby sit?

Doctor's answer:

Generally, babies who develop normally start sitting up around six months old. Of course, every child's development is different. The saying "three rolls, six sits, seven rolls, eight crawls, one year walks" means that a child will typically roll over at three months, sit up at six months, roll side to side at seven months, crawl at eight months, and walk at one year. If a baby hasn't completed these activities by the expected age, it may be a sign that the baby could have a congenital disease. Either the baby is developmentally delayed, has congenital spina bifida, or lacks essential trace elements. You can take the baby to the hospital for a check-up.
