What is prostatic calculi?

Patient's question:

Doctor: Hello, I am 26 years old, and my husband got married in October this year. In the annual health check-up at the beginning of this month, he was told that he had 0.5 cm stones in his prostate in the past. How should it be treated? I am very worried!!

Doctor's answer:

Prostatic calculi generally refer to stones that originate within the prostatic acini and ducts. They are completely different from urethral calculi that remain in the prostatic urethra and originate from the kidneys, ureters, or bladder. The etiology of prostatic calculi is currently not very clear, and it is generally believed that their formation is related to urine reflux, the accumulation of calcium, salts, and secretions. The diameter of prostatic calculi can be as small as 1 millimeter and as large as 3-4 millimeters, with most being the size of rice grains to peas. The number can range from a few to hundreds.
