Patient's question:
Male, 21 years old. I want to ask if varicocele is serious? Is surgical treatment absolutely necessary? Thank youDoctor's answer:
Hello: Varicocele refers to the abnormal dilatation and tortuosity of veins in the spermatic cord due to impaired venous. It occurs 95% of the time on the left side, with bilateral cases being less common. Mild varicocele without symptoms does not require treatment.Non-surgical treatment: For mild varicocele or cases accompanied by neurasthenia, measures such as reporting scrotal discomfort and applying cold compresses may be recommended.
Surgical treatment: For severe varicocele, persistent sperm count below 20 million per cubic centimeter for three consecutive times, or testicular atrophy; or when the varicose veins disappear when lying flat, the inguinal high ligation of the spermatic vein can be performed.
