Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Explanation Request

Patient's question:

I have chronic prostatitis. The results of my urine test two days ago showed Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) at 0.35 ng/mL. What do these results indicate?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, PSA is the most valuable tumor marker for prostate cancer and has been widely used in the screening, early diagnosis, and staging of prostate cancer. Its specificity is as high as 97%. 69% to 92% of prostate cancer patients have positive serum PSA, and about 7% to 20% of patients with acute prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia may also have a decrease in PSA. However, the serum PSA concentration in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia is generally higher than 20 ng/ml.
