Patient's question:
Recently, I've been experiencing some pain in the groin area or lower back. The symptoms worsen after exertion, prolonged standing, or walking. How is varicocele treated?Doctor's answer:
Varicocele refers to the abnormal dilatation and tortuosity of veins in the spermatic cord due to impaired venous. In younger individuals who are unmarried and experiencing symptoms, a scrotal support band can be used to lower the scrotum, which may alleviate the symptoms. Those without symptoms or with mild symptoms can simply use a scrotal supporter or wear loose-fitting underwear. Symptoms often resolve after marriage. For more severe cases, high ligation of the spermatic vein can be performed, which involves ligating all branches of the spermatic veins at the internal inguinal ring. Currently, the best surgical approach is laparoscopic high ligation of the spermatic vein. For patients with varicocele, timely treatment can reduce the risk of complications, while delayed treatment may affect fertility.
