What is Epididymitis this disease?

Patient's question:

Hello, I have testicular pain and a sensation of heaviness. The doctor said I have epididymitis. What is epididymitis?

Doctor's answer:

Epididymitis is a common inflammation of the male reproductive system, often caused by Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus. It is classified into acute and chronic types.
Acute epididymitis has very obvious clinical symptoms: sudden swelling and pain in the epididymis, sometimes accompanied by fever and chills. Palpation reveals swelling or a mass in the epididymis, with significant tenderness. It is often accompanied by prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis. Laboratory tests may show elevated white blood cells, and sometimes urine culture detects pathogenic bacteria.
Chronic epididymitis: Most patients have a history of acute orchitis and epididymitis. Symptoms include pain and a heavy or distending sensation in the scrotum. Palpation shows a smaller, harder epididymis with mild tenderness. The vas deferens on the affected side may be thicker and harder. Laboratory tests reveal normal leukocyte elevation in prostatic fluid.
