Features: This book guides readers into the realm of 3ds Max architectural rendering through detailed explanations of typical architectural rendering projects, such as school entrances, clubs, residential buildings, passenger stations, and high-rise office buildings. It provides a step-by-step introduction to the process and techniques of rendering, covering in-demand engineering projects. By reading this book, readers can share the author's years of experience and insights in architectural design and rendering. Additionally, the book introduces application software like AutoCAD and Photoshop involved in rendering and analyzes the techniques of using different software together, enabling readers to handle various practical projects more easily. The accompanying CD-ROM contains example files, materials, and multimedia video teaching files used in the book. This book is suitable for readers learning architectural design with 3ds Max software, as well as professionals in architectural design seeking to improve their skills.
[Preface] When 3ds Max was first released, there were few tutorials available, especially those focused on architectural rendering, which were updated only once every one or two years. During the era when hand-drawn renderings dominated the market, the author had to search extensively for learning materials for 3ds Max, sometimes even using English-Chinese dictionaries to read online help. However, software development, like computer technology, advanced rapidly. In October 2005, Autodesk announced the acquisition of Alias, and by then, 3ds Max had evolved to version 8.0, with an unprecedented wealth of books on architectural rendering using 3ds Max. Choosing a good tutorial became a new challenge for every reader. As the old saying goes, "To reach the middle, seek the top; to reach the top, seek the highest." Only high-quality books can teach advanced skills. The most direct way to judge the level of an example tutorial is to see the quality of its rendered examples. In fact, architectural rendering has evolved dramatically, and the standards of a few years ago are no longer comparable to today's level. In this book, the author has carefully selected the latest classic engineering examples as case studies, combining current popular rendering methods and techniques to provide a systematic explanation. The book aims to promote enjoyable learning, allowing readers to grasp the software in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. The author has woven some rendering experiences and background knowledge into the process with humorous language, hoping to help readers understand practical engineering situations and alleviate the fatigue of learning. Of course, readers shouldn’t expect the tutorial to be as captivating as a martial arts novel. Without the extraordinary skills of the legendary Mr. Jin Yong, learning 3ds Max requires the same dedication as studying a martial arts manual—practicing while learning to achieve mastery.
The book is organized and explained in a progressive manner, from easy to difficult. The modeling sections in the first two chapters are detailed, making them suitable for beginners, while the later chapters provide in-depth analysis of lighting and post-processing to enhance practical application skills. The book also includes exercises at the end of each chapter for review. Every image in the book has been carefully edited, with parameters highlighted in red boxes and operations marked with arrows for easy reference. Additionally, the book comes with a video teaching CD-ROM, offering further analysis and explanations on current hot topics such as photorealistic modeling, VRay plugin usage, and network rendering. This helps readers stay up-to-date with the latest software tools to create outstanding architectural renderings.
This book was planned and organized by the FeiSi Digital Product R&D Center, with Wang Hua and Shen Jing as the lead authors. Professor Zhang Hong from Southeast University and Professor Li Xingwu from Tongji University provided some architectural design case studies for the book, for which we express our sincere gratitude. Due to the limited time and the authors' limitations, this book may have imperfections. We welcome readers' feedback and corrections.
