Features: The annotations in this book are basically based on Jiao Xun's Zhengyi, but they do not rigidly adhere to old interpretations. Instead, they carefully select and incorporate views from relevant sources. In short, the aim is to ensure clarity and coherence, striving to express the original meaning as authentically as possible. For example, "The ruler promotes the worthy as a matter of necessity" is quoted from Huang Zongxi's Mengzi Shishuo; "All things are taken from within their own houses and used," is quoted from Zhang Taiyan's Xin Fangyan. To facilitate readers who are interested in classical literature but have limited exposure to classical Chinese, the annotations use colloquial language, aiming for simplicity and accessibility. However, due to the significant changes in language over time, it is difficult to find equivalent expressions that accurately translate every word and phrase.
