2. The Essays Volume includes representative works by Lu Xun from different periods (excluding early classical prose essays). They are arranged largely in the order of Lu Xun's self-edited collections. A few series of related or similar articles, as well as out-of-copyright essays, have been adjusted appropriately.

The title notes for each article generally indicate the original publication source (the date is noted for newspapers, while the year and issue number are noted for journals), as well as the pen name used at the time of publication and later the collection they were included in (when the pen name is "Lu Xun," it is omitted). The title notes provide as objectively as possible relevant details about Lu Xun's writing process and the historical context at the time, for the reader's reference.
2. Text annotations are placed at the end of each article. To avoid excessive detail, annotations are generally not provided for terms and phrases familiar to most readers and do not hinder reading, such as the names of Li Bai, Du Fu, Cao Xueqin, or works like Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin, and Dream of the Red Chamber.
3. All original notes by Lu Xun are marked as "Original Notes by the Author."
