Patient's question:
Hello, I have testicular pain and a feeling of heaviness. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, the doctor said I have epididymitis. What are the symptoms of early epididymitis?Doctor's answer:
Epididymitis is a common disease among young and middle-aged adults. Whenever the body's resistance is low, pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus take advantage of the opportunity to enter the vas deferens and infiltrate the epididymis, causing inflammation. Therefore, this condition often follows urethritis, prostatitis, and seminal vesiculitis. If the inflammatory mass in the epididymis decreases, the scrotal skin becomes red and swollen with a sense of vibration, forming an abscess, drainage through incision is necessary. In cases where the condition is caused by indwelling catheters, the catheter should be removed. Additionally, during the acute phase, sexual impulses and heavy physical exercise should be avoided to prevent worsening the infection and symptoms. For a very small number of stubborn patients with poor condition control, orchiectomy, including testicular removal, may be performed.
