Patient's question:
Pain during ejaculation after intercourse, damp and itchy testicles. What are the specific symptoms and manifestations of orchitis?Doctor's answer:
Orchitis is divided into chronic and acute forms:Chronic orchitis presents with chronic swelling, a hard texture, and a smooth surface, accompanied by mild tenderness and loss of normal sensitivity. In some cases, the testis gradually atrophies, with severe cases where the testis is almost indistinguishable, showing relatively enlarged epididymis. In most cases, the inflammation spreads from the epididymis to the testis, making the boundary between the two unclear. Bilateral chronic orchitis often leads to infertility.
Acute: During the acute phase, high fever, chills, and testicular pain radiating to the groin are accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Acute mumps orchitis typically appears 3–4 days after mumps, with fever reaching up to 40°C, often accompanied by dehydration, redness and swelling of the scrotum, testicular enlargement, hydrocele, and significant tenderness. If it is mumps-related, the swollen parotid glands can also be detected.
