Features: The primary purpose of this textbook is to cultivate reading skills while also further training language fundamentals and enhancing overall English proficiency. Upon completing this textbook, students should be able to meet the requirements outlined in the senior English teaching syllabus for English majors in higher education institutions. The writing principles of this textbook are as follows:
1. Adopt an inductive teaching approach to guide students to work independently and think critically, fostering their logical thinking abilities. At different stages of teaching, the textbook encourages students to engage in various activities, ensuring they not only work independently but also develop logical thinking and the ability to think critically.
2. Select a wide range of materials to broaden students' cultural knowledge and familiarize them with different genres. Most of the texts in this textbook are selected from contemporary literary works, with a few drawn from modern classics. The texts are concise, linguistically exemplary, and diverse in scope.
3. Include extensive language exercises to reinforce and expand students' language knowledge while continuing to strengthen their fundamental language skills. This textbook is primarily a reading textbook, but it does not neglect the training of language fundamentals. Further strengthening fundamental skills is beneficial for improving reading proficiency. Therefore, numerous exercises to enhance language fundamentals are included after each lesson.
4. Design exercises of different types to cultivate comprehensive English skills. Comprehensive skill exercises should continue to be strengthened and improved at the advanced level, rather than merely repeating basic-level training.
5. Provide a substantial amount of language input within a limited space to ensure students receive sufficient language exposure. This textbook is intended for use by senior English majors (four-year program) in higher education institutions.
