How should varicocele be treated better?

Patient's question:

Recently, I've been experiencing some pain in the groin area or lower back. The symptoms worsen after exertion, prolonged standing, or walking. How should varicocele be treated? How should varicocele be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele is a common disease among young and middle-aged men. It is a pathological phenomenon where the pampiniform plexus of the spermatic cord, due to various reasons, experiences impaired drainage, leading to local venous expansion, congestion, and elongation. It most commonly occurs on the left side, but can also occur on the right or both sides. In clinical diagnosis, many patients with varicocele are found to have oligospermia or azoospermia, which affects fertility. In cases of severe varicocele, where sperm tests consistently show a count below 20 million per milliliter for three consecutive times, or with testicular atrophy, or where the varicose veins disappear when lying down, it is recommended to undergo high ligation of the spermatic vein. Varicocele can be relieved, but the treatment period is generally long, and there is a high risk of recurrence after treatment. Therefore, during treatment, medications should be used according to the symptoms, and patients should also maintain a light diet.
