Can children eat ginseng?

Patient's question:

My child is over 5 years old and has a relatively weak constitution. At night, if he doesn't wake up to urinate, he will wet the bed. Sometimes he also soils his pants. I want to give him some ginseng or Korean ginseng, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate. I would like to ask for your advice.

Doctor's answer:

Hello: It is well known that bedwetting is a very common phenomenon in infants and young children. If a child is still unable to control urination during the day or wake up from sleep to urinate voluntarily after the age of three, it is called primary enuresis. The exact cause of enuresis is still not completely clear, and it is believed to be related to the following factors: (1) Genetic factors: 30% of children with enuresis have fathers who also experienced enuresis as children, and 20% have mothers who did as well. Conversely, if both parents have a history of enuresis, their sons have a 40% chance of experiencing it, and their daughters have a 25% chance as well.
