How is prostatitis best treated?

Patient's question:

A few weeks ago, I caught a cold. After recovering from the cold, I don't know why there started to be a discharge from my urethra, and I've also been experiencing lower back pain. In recent days, it has become increasingly severe. My friend said this might be prostatitis. Could you please tell me: How is prostatitis best treated?

Doctor's answer:

Hello! Do you have frequent urination, urgency, or pain during urination? Based on your description, it is likely that prostatic cysts are caused by prostatitis. You may have chronic prostatitis due to incomplete treatment of acute prostatitis. Prostatitis can be either bacterial or non-bacterial. Therefore, when treating prostatitis, it is necessary to diagnose which type of prostatitis it is. The treatment for prostatitis requires effective antibiotic therapy, generally lasting 3-4 courses, followed by checking the prostatic fluid to ensure it is normal. If it is normal, an additional week of treatment may be needed to stabilize the condition. After full recovery from prostatitis, the cysts may completely resolve. Small cysts generally do not require treatment. Large cysts may be treated surgically. Personally, I do not recommend surgical treatment.
