Is there anything to pay attention to when treating epididymitis?

Patient's question:

I am an office white-collar worker. Throughout the day, I sit at my desk and am very busy, so I rarely get up to move around. Because of this, I was recently told that I have epididymitis. Now, I am in constant pain every day and don't know what to do. Could you please tell me: What should be noted when treating epididymitis?

Doctor's answer:

Epididymitis is divided into acute epididymitis and chronic epididymitis, and the symptoms of the two are different. Acute epididymitis occurs suddenly, with high fever, leukopenia, swelling and pain in the affected scrotum, a heavy sensation, and referred pain in the lower abdomen and inguinal region, which intensifies during standing or walking. The affected epididymis is swollen and has significant tenderness. Chronic epididymitis is more common, as some patients may develop it from incomplete self-healing during the acute phase, but most patients do not have a clear acute phase. The inflammation is often secondary to chronic prostatitis or injury. Therefore, if symptoms of acute epididymitis appear, it is essential to seek timely treatment to prevent it from progressing to chronic epididymitis.
