Patient's question:
I got a check-up last week and found that I have balanitis. It seems to be getting worse recently, with some bleeding and discharge, and it looks like there are also blisters. Is the condition getting serious? Please ask: What is a reasonable cost for treating red and swollen glans?Doctor's answer:
Consider it to be balanoposthitis, the main reason being that the male patient has excessive foreskin. Accumulated unclean substances between the foreskin and glans, known as smegma, irritates the local foreskin and mucosa, leading to recurrent inflammation, i.e., balanoposthitis. Additionally, it cannot be ruled out that it may be caused by sexual activity. This is common when the female partner has vaginal inflammation, leading to cross-infection during intercourse and resulting in balanoposthitis in the male patient.
